Renovation of a 30,000 sf existing racquetball club into a state-of-the-art medical office building containing medical suites, dental suites, laboratories, examining rooms and high-tech facilities for reconstructive surgery and prosthodontics. Project scope included complete interior demolition and installation of an interim floor which became a new second floor, refacing exterior walls with brick and the addition of a new glass curtain wall and entrance canopy.
At the time of its completion, this facility was equipped with one of the most powerful nuclear magnetic resonators (NMR) in the United States. The 600 sf area containing the resonator had to be enclosed in a magnetic shield of welded steel plate. The room itself weighed 50 tons and rested on a thickened concrete slab.
