Project Details: E.P. Guidi provided construction and construction management services for the development of a 10,409-square-foot food court at the Fashion District in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The project included the construction of seven distinct food venues on the concourse level, delivered under a $5.7 million CM-at-Risk contract. Designed to create a modern and dynamic dining environment, the food court offers a diverse mix of culinary options, enhancing the shopping and entertainment experience for visitors.
The project was completed concurrently with several other construction efforts within the Fashion District, requiring careful coordination to maintain safe and efficient operations. E.P. Guidi led weekly planning meetings, daily communications, and precise scheduling of deliveries, ensuring that work proceeded smoothly alongside adjacent trades. All deliveries were routed through a single dock, which required meticulous timing and coordination with the dock coordinator to maintain workflow and site safety.
A notable engineering challenge involved the discovery of an existing grease duct that was insufficient to serve all seven food venues. The team collaborated with the mechanical contractor and engineer to design and install an upgraded duct system that fit within the existing conditions, balancing operational requirements with limited available space. Additionally, tenant-specific wall and ceiling finishes required careful sequencing and quality control to meet the design intent for each individual vendor.
Constructed within an active, high-traffic shopping environment, the project demanded constant attention to protecting existing finishes, particularly the flooring in common areas and corridors adjacent to the new food venues. Through proactive planning, E.P. Guidi safeguarded these areas while maintaining a productive construction schedule.
The completion of the Fashion District Food Court has rejuvenated a long-vacant portion of the mall, creating a vibrant dining destination that supports both the client’s objectives and the local community.
